Learn to Check and UNICEF launch the Ràdios Referents project
The initiative aims to promote the rights of children and combat disinformation from school radios
Learn to Check and UNICEF Spain are launching Radios Referents, a new media and information education project (AMI) that will use school radio as a tool to work on the rights of children, critical thinking and the fight against disinformation in the classroom. The programme is supported by the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID).
The initiative counts with the participation of 11 educational centers throughout Spain, which will develop radio and podcast projects with the accompaniment and specialized training of Learn to Check. The project is part of the continuous collaboration between both organizations to strengthen media and information literacy (AMI) and protect children and adolescents against misinformation.
Radios Referents combines online training for teachers, expert accompaniment in the design of AMI activities in the classroom, direct work with students and a final face-to-face event in which a collective podcast will be recorded that will collect the most outstanding experiences and learning of the project.

Third collaboration of UNICEF Spain and Learn to Check
Radios Referents joins the long history of collaboration between Learn to Check and UNICEF Spain in the field of media literacy, the fight against disinformation and the defense of the rights of children in digital environments. Among the initiatives developed jointly, the two editions of the project No em toquis!, promoted together with the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID), stand out. After the success of its first edition, in which 300 boys, girls and adolescents from 6 educational centers were trained in the 2022-23 academic year, the program was reissued in the 2023-24 academic year. The second edition had the participation of 14 educational centers throughout Spain.
These projects are aligned with the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which recognises the right of children to freedom of expression and information, as well as protection from risks that may affect their well-being and development. In an increasingly complex digital context, Learn to Check and UNICEF Spain are committed to empowering children and adolescents so that they can participate critically, safely and responsibly in the digital environment, guaranteeing their right to be informed, to express themselves and to be heard.
