Who profits from the Russian disinformation business?
Who is making money from Russian disinformation? Are sanctions effective? How do we protect freedom of expression? Yevhen Fedchenko, editor-in-chief of Stopfake.org and professor at the Mohyla School of Journalism (Kyiv), reflects on all these issues in this video. “If we understand how the system works, we can fight it more effectively,” says Fedchenko, who also explains how Russian disinformation devises strategies to circumvent sanctions. “Russia has moved its Spanish-language disinformation operations to Latin America,” says the editor-in-chief of Stopfake.org, “where there are no sanctions, and from there, they can return to Spain.” Fedchenko describes Russian disinformation operations as highly adaptive, flexible, and constantly evolving.
