How does disinformation harm individuals and society?
Disinformation is false, erroneous or misleading information that causes public damage. In this video, the president of Learn to Check, Nereida Carrillo, reflects on the phenomenon and the negative consequences it has for individuals, for certain groups and for society in general. LGTBIQ+ people, feminist women or migrants experience disinformation in the first person; it can affect their self-esteem, well-being and rights to privacy, freedom of expression or political participation. Carrillo comments on how young people and the elderly are vulnerable to disinformation and how this threatens rights and democracies.
