MIL CC presents its preliminary results to the group of evaluating experts in Brussels
The meeting of the international advisory group supports the progress of the project and its first results
The Muntpunt library in Brussels hosted on January 27th the second meeting of the group of experts in media and information literacy (AMI) that advises the international project of librarians Media and Information Literacy Community Connections (MIL CC). On this occasion, the meeting served to present the preliminary results of the initiative.
The meeting last January brought together professionals from six countries (Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, France and Slovenia). This group accompanies the development of MIL CC, an initiative that aims to strengthen the role of libraries as key agents in the fight against disinformation.
The meeting was organized by Public Libraries 2030, an organization dedicated to promoting innovation and the development of public libraries in Europe. During the meeting, the experts delved into the knowledge of the project and the experiences of the training course received by librarians from Ireland, Spain and Portugal. The response was very positive, since the three countries have met the objectives set at the beginning of the project and are approaching the end of the program, which ends this February, with very good preliminary results.
With this initiative, the MIL CC project takes a step forward in its mission to strengthen the skills in media and information literacy, consolidating the network of librarians as key agents in the fight against disinformation and the promotion of critical thinking.
THE MIL CC PROJECT
The MIL CC project is funded by the prestigious European Media and Information Fund (EMIF), coordinated by the University Institute of Lisbon, and also has as partners Learn To Chick and the Dublin City University. In addition, in Spain, it receives the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Spanish Society of Scientific Documentation and Information (SEDIC).
Due to the great interest shown by several Spanish libraries to participate, Learn to Check decided to double the places of the project in Spain. So finally, more than 100 professionals from 50 Spanish libraries participated in this initiative. Libraries from Andalusia, Murcia, La Rioja, Galicia, Asturias, Basque Country, Canary Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid, Castilla y León, Valencian Community, Navarra and Aragon have been part of this project.
The training began on April 8, 2025 with a face-to-face session in Madrid. It was part of the XXVI SEDIC Information Management Days, entitled “DO NOT FORGET: Lessons learnt from innovation and serendipity in information management”, which also offered three days of activities, presentations and debates.
The MIL CC training continued with online sessions during the months of April and May and, starting in June, the Learn To Chick team accompanied participants in the development of Media and Information Literacy (AMI) activities specifically designed for the communities they serve.
Some of the most inspiring AMI experiences designed and implemented by the librarians participating in the project were presented at the XII National Congress of Public Libraries, held in Granada between 5 and 7 November 2025. A presentation and a round table included the activities of theMILCC in this congress organized by the General Directorate of the Book, the Comic and the Reading of the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Junta de Andalucía.
