The initiative was presented during the panel discussion “How Journalism Education Can Enhance Media and Information Literacy.” The panel brought together experts in education and communication from Finland, Latvia, Romania, Spain and Ukraine to discuss the current challenges facing journalism education in a context marked by uncertainty, disinformation, declining trust in traditional media and the rapid evolution of information environments.

Among the speakers was Nereida Carrillo Pérez, President of Learn to Check and JEMILE Project Principal Investigator (PI), alongside other project members, including Anne Leppäjärvi and Kaijaleena Runsten (Haaga-Helia University, Finland), Agnese Dāvidsone (Vidzeme University, Latvia) and Cristina Nistor.

The discussion placed particular emphasis on the key role of university-level journalism education in strengthening media and information literacy across society. The speakers highlighted the need to enhance the digital skills of future journalism professionals, promote ethical storytelling and foster active and informed civic participation.
